Blockchain and Crypto • Lesson 1 / 9

What Is Blockchain & Why Was It Created?

Welcome to GoMining Academy’s Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies course.

We built this course because blockchain is often presented as something highly technical and difficult to understand. Instead of overwhelming you with jargon, we'll focus on the core concepts in a clear and accessible way.

By the end of this course, you’ll build a genuine understanding of how this technology works: the ideas, the logic, and why any of that matters.

Let’s get straight to it.

At this point, you've certainly heard the word blockchain at least a few times.

Chances are, everyone around you has something to say about it. It's been the topic of conversation and hot takes for years now. Depending on who you ask, it may sound like:

  • The new industrial revolution.
  • Digital gold.
  • Web3 is the future of everything.

And yet, few people can actually explain what blockchain actually adds to the world and their life in particular, and how the technology works at its core.

Pick up most guides on blockchain, and you’ll get one of two things: technical jargon, or tips on when to buy. But they don’t cover the most interesting part: what blockchain actually is, and what the need for it is in the first place.

Here at GoMining, we've spent years inside the Bitcoin and blockchain ecosystem. We understand what the technology genuinely does, where it changes things, and where the hype runs ahead of reality.

We built this course from that experience, specially for those who are new to it.

Before we begin exploring the blockchain and its applications, let’s take a minute to truly understand it as a concept.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Explain what problem blockchain was actually built to solve
  • Understand what decentralization means
  • Explore how cutting out the middleman can reshape entire industries
  • Know exactly how the blockchain works
